Rrrrrrooooooxxxxxaaaannnnneeee!!

Andy and I took a big step in our relationship this past week. We got a PUPPY! May I introduce you to Miss Roxanne "Roxy" Laverne Hedtke-Gergory!

Roxy was rescued after her owners moved and abandoned her along with her mom and sister. She is a German Shepherd mix with a cleft pallet and beyond adorable!

Like any new addition there are challenges and some come way sooner than expected. A couple days after having Roxy, I took her to the vet and found out she had parvovirus. Parvovirus is an intestinal virus that can be very deadly among dogs. Luckily we caught it soon enough and she made a full recovery and is a ball of energy.

Andy and I are so happy to have her home and looking forward to this adventure!!

American Idiot

This weekend I took a day trip to St. Louis to see the musical "American Idiot." On this trip I discovered I can't do day trips like I use to. Four hours each way doesn't sound too bad, but when it comes down to it, it's awful. For future reference I now know that my limit for day trips are two hours each way. Boy, I sound old.

"American Idiot" is the musical developed by the band Green Day and features their music. It was a really good show, lots of young talent. My favorite part of the show was that Craig from the TV show Degrassi was in it! The show was definitely worth the trip. Here is the shows website http://americanidiotthemusical.com/.

I would like to make a weekend trip to St. Louis. There is so much there to see. I'll try to start taking more pictures for my blog as well.

Eeeevvvvaaaaaa in Vegas!!

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.....But, not for this girl!

Andy and I started off on our adventure to Vegas, to meet Ashlea and Jarred, wide-eyed and bushy tailed ready for our complementary drinks on our flight only to find out our coupons were discontinued. The trip could only get better from there, right? And it did!

Night one we decided to keep it pretty low key. Once we all got to our hotel, Planet Hollywood, we decided to test our luck in the casinos. Lets be honest, the games are pure luck and the only upside are the free drinks.

The next day we did the touristy side of Vegas and just walked The Strip and took in the people watching!

Andy met a Transformer and was beyond thrilled.

We took a nice couple picture in the front on the MGM.

And got a sore neck riding the roller coaster at the New York, New York.

That night Andy and I had a date night and went to Peepshow. Peepshow is the burlesque fairy tale inspired show featuring Playboy Playmate Holly Madison. The show was entertaining to say the least. There were AMAZING dance numbers and some that made you wonder, "how is it even possible to bend that way?" I'm not saying the show was an A+++, it could definitely use some improvements. 1. The story line didn't really make sense, but with there being lots of boobies and Playmate does it really need to make sense. For me? It would be nice. 2. The singers were horrendous. The only good singer was the Peep Diva. You can tell the Holly Madison's name and celebrity makes the show. I would recommend it if you're a big Playboy, Girls Next Door of Holly Madison fan.

After the show we met up with Ashlea and Jarred at a FABULOUS piano bar. Definitely must see if you love good classic covers with a twist.

The next day we FINALLY got to watch the Bellagio fountain show and walked the other end of the strip. We went to Caesars in hope of scoring Elton tickets, but he didn't have a show until Valentine's Day :( After conquering that end of the strip we made our way to The Freemont Street Experience. Freemont Street is a LOT different than the Strip. It is very old school. While there Ashlea and I did the zip line which was a lot of fun!

Our last day in Vegas we went to the Hoover Dam. We decided to take a detour before going to the Hoover Dam and did a little off roading in Arizona. Impromptu adventures are always fun, but can also be a bit scary. We made it all the way to Lake Mead, which was gorgeous. It is amazing how beautiful our country is.

After surviving our off-roading adventure we made it to the HOOVER DAM! It is quite breath taking. I can't believe the knowledge and engineering they had back then. Beyond amazing! We did the full fledged tour, seeing the Hoover Dam from the inside out.

All of us in front of an air vent that is in the Hoover Dam.

Looking down the Dam.

On top of the Dam.

Then FINALLY! I got In-N-Out Burger! It was the one thing I HAD to get while in Vegas. And it was well worth it.

The perfect end to a wonderful trip!

A New Start

Everyone is off to a new beginning this time of the year, everything from new tv shows to get hooked on to sporting a new hair style. How am I getting a new start? I am making my debut as a college graduate! And let me tell you it as already been quite an adventure.

Have I landed my dream job yet?! Heck No! But I'm working on it. Just because I have a degree now, does not make getting a job easier. However, it does open up a lot more opportunities. Which can be good and bad. The job search can get a bit overwhelming, so it is good to take a break. That is exactly what I am going to do, take a break! Where am I taking this break you may ask?

VEGAS!!!!!!

I hope Sin City is ready for this girl!

Recaps!

I'm so behind! I went to the Blink 182 concert on September 9 and it was phenomenal! It was such a treat to finally see Blink! My Chemical Romance opened for them and it made me feel 13 again. I use to be a huge fan of theirs, but not so much anymore. Their new stuff has gone rather down hill for me. I will say they are a great live band. Gerard is a fabulous front man and I'm looking forward to see how his comic books transform to the big screen.

Sadly I did not go to the Kevin Devine show. I did the responsible thing and went back to Manhattan to do homework. I will definitely catch him next time! As should everyone else!

This past weekend Andy and I went to the An Horse show. The venue, opening bands and atmosphere hleped make the show even better. The two openers, The Sluts and Bo Jackson, were very talented local Lawrence bands. It was a grea night filled with good people, good music and good beer.

On that note.....Cheers!!!

Concerts, Concerts, Concerts!!!!

There are soo many great shows coming up in the Lawrence/KC area. The Granada in Lawrence has a pretty solid line-up this fall.

Here's a list of ones I am hoping to go to and you all should check out at least one!

September 9-Blink 182
By far one of the best shows to start off the fall concert season. I've loved Blink since middle school. I have seen Angels and Airwaves, but seeing Blink would be the icing on the cake!

September 11-Kevin Devine
I love Kevin Devine. He is such a nice guy and a fantastic musician. I'm also excited for Kevin's opener, The Features. The Features are a great southern band that knows how to put on a bad ass show.

September 24- An Horse
Just listen to this video and you'll be a fan.

October 7-Minus the Bear
This will just be an amazingly fun show.

October 8-Taking Back Sunday
I feel the same way about this show as the Blink show...EPIC!

October 29- Thrice
The thing that makes this show more amazing than it is already going to be, is the opening band!!! O'Brother! O'Brother is a band out of Atlanta who is very talented and has a bright future ahead of them. This is probably one of my favorite videos and songs from them.

November 14- City and Colour
I saw them at Lolla and they were really, really good. The lead singer, Dallas Green, was also the lead singer of the band Alexisonfire. Two totally different ends of the music spectrum. I definitely am more of a City and Colour fan, but both are still great.
